2nd post

Why i decided to change the skills?
This is because Ms Norzian wanted us try a variety of skills, and not just finding the easiest way which is to do acting(everyone hane had experience in it). Also, after lookig at others choosing their skills, i decided to do physical theatre Butoh. Almost everyone are trying out new things, so must i.

What skills have i chosen? And why?
I have chosen physical theatre dance Butoh, and sound. I chose Butoh because many people said it was hard, so i thought why not give it a try, and anyway i think physical stuff will be quite easy for me. I have chosen sound as Butoh skills are usually accompanied and well complemented by their sound effect.

What concept have i chosen for this final decision making? Why?
I have decided to do on the theme of cannibalism. This is because i read that Butoh is ususally associated with taboo topics and issues, and also the idea of cannibalism struck me when i saw No String Attach's play because of the eerie music. At the same time, i am an indonesian, and i once knew of an infamous cannibalist in Indonesia a few years back, who was well known in the media, named Sumanto.

What is your DV like?
I thought of the DV,which is to show the audience how cannibalism will help you gain strength, but Ms Norzian rejected this as she thinks it is not morally right. All theatre performances must be morally right, or at least has a neutral stand, and cannot influence the audience negatively. Therefore i have decided to change it to: To show the audience how one in search of power out of desperation, may easily be influenced to do the extremes. I want to make the audience realize that such bizarre things do exist in real life. In a state of desperation, one is not able to think correctly what is good and bad for him/her.

Structure of my play?
I have decided on making 3 scenes in the play, considering that each IS is only permitted to a maximum of 10 minutes performance. The first scene will show the struggle and desperation he faces. In the real life story of Sumanto, he was a poor villager, who seeks to be wealthy. It will depict his desperation for something he longs for, basically to get richer. The second scene will be when hallucinates with an evil spirit, and that where he was introduced into cannibalism. The presence of the evil spirit will be brought out by the sound effect. The third scene will be about his search for the corpse he wants, and how he evetually gain 'power'.

Each scene will be denoted with a specific emotion, and i will first think of the suitable music for each scene that will be able to bring out the mood and emotion. After that, i will choreograph the moves based on the music.

Which theory will you be following closely to?
I will be following hijikata tatsumi theory. He is the founder of Butoh dance in Japan. His dance form is usually highly choreographed with stylized gestures drawn from his childhood memories. It is the style which is most often associated with Butoh by westerners. His dance uses energy qualities expressive movements. He would use sonds, paintings, sculptures andwords to construct his movements, by integrating these elements through visualization into the nervous system to produce movement qualities that could be very subtle, light angelic ghost-like demonic heavy dark grotesque violent and extreme. It is similar to the mime system of jacques lecoq.

These are yet to be confirmed again! :)
